Do I have to host a german student in Australia?

Yes. The expectation is that you will stay with a family in Germany and then you will host them in Melbourne

What are my obligations as a host family?

Good host families do the following:

  • Treat the German student as you would treat your own child

  • Make sure you have a valid Working With Children certificate

  • Entertain the student on weekends (this is very important. we don't want a situation where the German student is bored on the weekends)

  • Strike up a relationship beforehand with the parents of the German family via email / skype

  • Help the student with their English

  • Inform Mr. Tiernan of any issues arising at home, so that we can work together to solve it.

  • Do everything within reason to ensure that the student has an enjoyable time in Melbourne.
